The #AnonymousBookaholics Tag

I was tagged by Melissa from Melissa’s Book World to do this tag. I’ve read it on her blog and it’s an amazing tag to write about 🙂 Feel free to check her blog out.

So what is the Anonymous Bookaholic tag about?
Basically, the AB community is a group of readers who share their experiences with a very common problem… namely, BIBLIOPHILISM.

To share my experiences with this certain problem of mine, I will answer a series of questions and tag a few people to do the same.

What do you like about buying new books?

Besides the obvious? I don’t know… I love being surrounded by books and the one place to do that is a bookshop, and since I’m literally unable to leave a bookshop without a stack of books I always end up buying a few. There’s also the library but my anxiety throws a wedge into that experience. I can’t deal with people all that well so I prefer a good bookshop over a library.
It’s also a thrill to unpack a package with new books bought from an online store and putting them on shelves while rearranging them to my liking. It’s like an addiction. The feel of new books and the smell of them…

I just noticed that I sound like a crack addict when talking about books but still… that’s why I like buying books. They contain entire worlds. I love the thought of having all these universes in my hands and on my shelves.

How often do you buy new books?

That’s difficult. I’ve been jobless for the past two months so I bought little to no new books. I had to get by on very cheap second hand books or ebooks that I borrowed from the library but when I have a monthly income I usually buy 5 to 10 new books a month. It depends on the releases and the prices. If a book is very expensive I tend to postpone the purchase but when they are reasonably priced, I’ll buy them immediately.

My record of purchased books bought within one month is 15 books. I guess you can imagine my financial state that month wasn’t very good since they were all hardbacks that cost up to 20 euros a piece.

Bookstore or online bookshoping – which do you prefer?

Nothing competes getting your books at an actual store but, sadly enough, I live in a part of The Netherlands where there’s no English bookstore or one that sells the books that I would want. So I’m kind of forced to buy my books at an online bookstore.

I prefer to order my books at bookdepository which is a UK based online bookshop yet it ships all over the world without any shipping fee AND their books are, mostly, really cheap.

That doesn’t mean that I won’t buy any books at a bookshop anymore. Whenever I’m in Amsterdam I always go to the Waterstones to get my fix and when in London I usually go from bookshop to bookshop to collect as many books as my luggage allows me to take back home.

Do you have a favorite bookshop?

Not really…. I love any bookshop that enables me to browse and find books that I’m interested in reading and taking with me. There are some bookstores that I would like to visit in my life but it’s not like I prefer them over any other.

Those I want to visit are:

Selexys, Maastricht NL.
Livraria Lello; Porto, Portugal.
Cook & Book; Brussels, Belgium.
Librería El Ateneo Grand Splendid; Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Shakespeare & Company; Paris, France.

This became a little long…. ah well :p

Do you preorder books?

Hell yes!
BUT, I only preorder when it’s part of a series I’m in the process of reading like Throne of Glass or The Raven Cycle or it has to be a new book written by an author I like. I preodered Lady Midnight a year before it came out and it’s the first part of a Cassandra Clare series.

Do you have a monthly book buying limit?

Nope :p

I buy whatever I want to buy and whenever I can afford it. There’s no limit whatsoever.

Book buying bans – Are they something for you?

Hahaha HAHAHAHhahahahaha

No….

Like I said… it’s like an addiction.

I mean.. try to take away drugs from a druggie and see what happens.
Oookay, I don’t get any massive withdrawal symptoms but I still feel pretty crappy and end up buying books anyway. Bans for me are catastrophic…

How big is your wishlist?

Let me introduce you to my good friend Crowley who will show you the extensiveness of my wishlist which contains approximately 700 books that I still want to own and/or read.

Which three books from your wishlist do you wish to own NOW?

*tries to shove her entire wishlist into three books*
*fails at the attempt*
*ends up sweating and crying at having to choose three*

But I did it :p in random order.

I realise that they’re all preorders but I’m currently dying to know what happens in either one of these books. I need to know what’ll happen with Khalid, with Gansey or Blue or Kaden.

OMG KADEN

Time to Tag.

I tag the following people to complete the challenge 🙂

  1. Oh no, now I have to go to Maastricht. I usually drag my boyfriend to Waterstones in Amsterdam once a month (jeey weekend ov), but I guess this month plans have changed 😀 I have been to Shakespeare and Company three times now, and it was Amazing. The third time we went just for the bookshop. Well, we were in Disneyland, and our train home would only go hours later and we couldnt get in the park anymore… so what better to do than take a short trip to Paris, get yourself a new book at this Amazing bookstore and then find a nice spot in the sun to read it

    1. OMYgosh !! Three times already 😀 I’m so jealous!!

I’ll be going to Paris at the end of this month so hopefully I’ll be able to visit that shop during my stay there. You should definitely take the time to go to Maastricht 🙂 I suspect that one is truly pretty ❤
