Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.
After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.
All Katy can do is survive.
Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?
Together, they can face anything.
But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?
And will they even be together?
Getting through the first three in one-go made me so darn tired that I slipped into an exhaustion somewhere around the middle of this book. That doesn’t mean that it wasn’t epic because it was. It really was.
Origin takes it up a notch and blasts you away with even more plot-twists and unexpected turns. I couldn’t stop from beginning to end and had to stop only because my head was throbbing and my eyes kept drooping shut. BUT CHEEZUS THESE BOOKS ARE SO GOOD I NEED MORE.
I’m kind of scared because there’s only one more to go and the world just went to the crapper at the end of this book.
In this book we are introduced to Daemon’s POV AND I FRIGGIN LOVE IT. His way of expressing things and experiencing the world was fascinating to read after getting only Katy for the first three books. I got goosebumps during the make-out scenes. AND DAMN THE FEELS. Daemon’s whole speech about him being sorry for pulling her into his messy life had me crying like a baby. I just couldn’t deal…
What sets this book apart from the rest is the seriousness of it. The tone is a little darker than the previous three books. Katy has been taken by the DOD and is currently undergoing various experiments to see what makes her tick. At the same time, you dive into Daemon’s POV. Eventually, the two reunite and start to plan their escape but things are not as easy as they seem. Getting in was simple but getting out is harder than it looks.
Before Daemon and Katy can run they discover what DOD truly wants. They wanted Daemon and Katy so badly so that they could reproduce. Their children would possess uncanny abilities and be more powerful than anything the world has ever seen.
These children are called the Origin. They can do whatever a Luxen can do but much more. They’re lethal and difficult to control. Escaping the DOD might mean setting these children loose.
I can’t tell you much more of the plot due to spoilers since this book is packed with twists and turns. There’s never a dull moment. At every corner there’s something waiting for you.
Jennifer L Armentrout is an amazing writer. Her writing style is incredible and addictive. After finishing every book, I just need more.
