Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Apart from the cover, this book is everything but boring. IT IS SO DARN GOOD I SWEAR!!

I started this book knowing absolutely NOTHING about it except that it had good ratings on Goodreads and that Goodreads kept recommending it to me.
I picked it up on my way to work and was only three chapters in before I got to my workplace and I’m not kidding when I say that this book was the only thing I could think about during work. I literally could not function until I got my hands on this book again and was able to continue reading.

The story is incredible and its characters are so damn funny that I couldn’t stop laughing. Daemon, sexiness aside, is one of the best written characters I’ve come across and I’ve had my fair share of sarcastic little shits but his wit and sass is so well written that it never comes across as forced or faulty.
And OMG the banter between him and Katy. They are to die for! It’s funny and adorable I had trouble containing my feels and explode.

The chemistry between Daemon and Katy reminded me a little of the chemistry between Clary and Jace from The Mortal Instruments. Daemon’s level of sass definitely rivals that of Jace’s and Katy’s comebacks are spot-on. I just…. I HAVE SO MANY FEELS RIGHT NOW.

Of course the book has a more serious note to it as well. Shipping aside, the book is about a book lover who moves to a new town with her mother. She’s pretty much a recluse before her mother forces her to go next door and meet the neighbours. Enter Daemon and Dee.
Whereas Dee and Katy hit it off right away, Katy has issues with Dee’s twin brother Daemon who’s seemingly always bare chested and has a bad attitude. Thankfully, Katy knows how to deal with rogue bastards. But then things are starting to get a little weird. People are looking at Dee funny and long before Katy realizes anything’s amiss, she’s attacked by someone or… something.

Daemon eventually explains what’s going on and who he is. Both he and Dee are part of the Lux, an alien life form that came to Earth when Daemon was very young. They’re beings of light and have the ability to bend it to their will. One thing, though… bending light in front of a mortal will put them in danger. That’s why Katy’s been attacked. Daemon warns her to stay away and tries everything in his power to refrain her from becoming friends with Dee or any of his friends. But Katy’s determined. She’s willing to protect her friends and therefore, walks head on into the shadows.

I know, I know… I wasn’t into books about alien’s as well. I never read anything that even hinted at them because I’m not a person who believes in that stuff. (Note: I don’t believe in those green puppets we call aliens. I do, however, believe that there’s another life form out there somewhere). So except from The 5th Wave, I had never even touched an alien book but since this came up everywhere I went -especially on Goodreads- I tried it and I FRIGGIN LOVED IT, HOLY SMOKES.

I give this book 5 stars. More if it was possible.
